Lüders Theorem for Coherent-State POVMs

چکیده

Abstract: Lüders’ theorem states that two observables commute if measuring one of them does not disturb the measurement outcomes of the other. We study measurements which are described by continuous positive operatorvalued measurements (or POVMs) associated with coherent states on a Lie group. In general, operators turn out to be invariant under the Lüders map if their P and Q-symbols coincide. For a spin corresponding to SU(2), the identity is shown to be the only operator with this property. For a particle, a countable family of linearly independent operators is identified which are invariant under the Lüders map generated by the coherent states of the Heisenberg-Weyl group, H3. The Lüders map is also shown to implement the anti-normal ordering of creation and annihilation operators of a particle.

Extremal Covariant Positive Operator Valued Measures: the Case of a Compact Symmetry Group

In the modern theory of quantum mechanics, observables are represented as normalized positive operator valued measures (POVMs). The set of all POVMs having the same outcome space has natural convex structure. A convex mixture of two POVMs corresponds to a random choice between two measurement apparatuses. An extremal POVM thus describes an observable which is unaffected by this kind of randomne...

The Poincaré Half-Plane for Informationally-Complete POVMs

It has been shown in previous papers that classes of (minimal asymmetric) informationally-complete positive operator valued measures (IC-POVMs) in dimension d can be built using the multiparticle Pauli group acting on appropriate fiducial states. The latter states may also be derived starting from the Poincaré upper half-plane model H. To do this, one translates the congruence (or non-congruenc...

POVMs and Naimark ’ s theorem without sums Extended abstract

We introduce POVMs within the categorical quantum mechanical formalism in terms of †-compact categories [2,7,8,17]. Our definition is justified by two facts: i. we provide a purely graphical abstract counterpart to Naimark’s theorem, which establishes a bijective correspondence between POVMs and abstract projective measurements on an extended system; ii. in the category of Hilbert spaces and li...

Optimal quantum measurements for spin-1 and spin-3/2 particles

Positive operator valued measures (POVMs) are presented that allow an unknown pure state of a spin-1 particle to be determined with optimal fidelity when 2 to 5 copies of that state are available. Optimal POVMs are also presented for a spin-3 2 particle when 2 or 3 copies of the unknown state are available. Although these POVMs are optimal they are not always minimal, indicating that there is r...
